They were using an HDMI cable and when they switched to a DVI cable they were able to get video to the monitor so they could install their OS.Recently I bought my first X99 Micro 2 mb and 5820K cpu (I Love It) I updated the Bios to the latest and have been very happy But one thing I have noticed while playing around with settings and overclocking After I am done experimenting with over clocking in the bios and playing games on windows 10 I then put everything back to stock settings and reboot into windows only to find out that my bios settings didn't take So I go back into the bios and sure enough some of the settings are still enabled Example: Someone earlier had a problem where they weren't getting video to the monitor on first boot of a new build. If you are using an HDMI cable as your output source, try using a DVI instead.

I had to enable "Legacy Devices" and after I did that I was able to put my GPU in and when the PC booted I got video output to the monitor from my GPU. I had a similar problem with my BIOS where the GPU would cause the PC to not boot even though I had it set to use PCI as the primary video output. TL DR: BIOS settings don't save and resetting CMOS/battery doesn't help, should I flash a new version?Īfter you change this setting, are you shutting it down and placing the GPU back in so when it boots up again the video card is there? It might be resetting back to auto if its booting up after changing the settings and the GPU isn't present so it changes itself back.Īlso check in the BIOS for anything related to "Legacy Devices".
Or is this overkill and is there something else I can try? Thanks in advance for any help. Should my next step be to flash the latest version of the BIOS (I see there is an update). This reset the system clock, but I still cannot save BIOS settings. I've tried removing the CMOS battery and jumping the CMOS by moving the jumper pin. But despite this setting not saving, the system remembers the time of day just fine in between startups. However, after hitting F10 to save and exit with the new setting, I restart the BIOS only to find that it is set back to Auto. I believe the failure to POST is being caused by my Primary Display BIOS setting being set to Auto rather than PCIe. Completely removing my graphics card (Asus 780 Ti) fixed the problem, and now my computer boots to the BIOS menu.
I rebooted, and the DRAM LED was gone, but the BIOS still failed to POST. After removing and re-inserting my RAM, I realized it had not been seated correctly. However, my BIOS wouldn't POST so all I had was a blank screen. The machine would turn on, the power button would emit a light, and the case fans and CPU fan would run as expected. After installing everything and doing the wiring, I connected a monitor and keyboard and booted up. I'm working on my first-ever custom built PC.
